IKEA U.S. welcomes the IKEA Plant Dog, a new plant-based and vegan version of the popular meat-based hot dog, to the IKEA food family. The IKEA hot dog has been savored by shoppers for over 40 years. Expanding the plant-based menu marks the continuation of efforts by IKEA to offer more plant-based options at an affordable price.
“IKEA is driven by a vision to create a better everyday life for many people. Through our food business, we can contribute to this by offering more plant-based alternatives with a lower climate impact compared to animal-based options,” says Helene von Reis, Food Manager at IKEA of Sweden.
During the creation of the Plant Dog, the IKEA team overcame the challenge of creating a plant-based hot dog with the same look, texture, taste, and memorable snap similar to the iconic IKEA hot dog. The Plant Dog is made with rice protein, onion, apple, salt, pepper, and a smokiness that gives it a balanced taste and characteristic sausage flavor.
“We’re excited to launch the Plant Dog in the U.S. We know that our hot dogs are beloved by many and we’re proud to expand our plant-based foods for customers. Our ambition is to make healthier and more sustainable eating easy, desirable and affordable, without compromising on taste,” said Paul Fite, Country Food Manager, IKEA U.S.
