Pureture, a US biotech specializing in animal-free ingredients, has entered into a partnership with Namyang Dairy Products, one of South Korea’s major dairy manufacturers. With a global presence spanning 21 countries, Namyang aims to leverage Pureture’s plant-based casein to introduce a new range of plant-based dairy products, offering sustainable options to consumers.
Pureture claims to have developed the world’s first non-GMO plant-based casein. Derived from yeast, this protein allows manufacturers to create clean-label, dairy-free products without the need for additives, emulsifiers, or binders. The plant-based casein mimics the functionality of animal protein, providing a smooth texture to alternative milk and offering melting and stretching characteristics to plant-based cheese.
Namyang Dairy Products plans to offer 100% plant-based, dairy-free products without compromising taste, nutrition, or cost through this partnership. Pureture aims to reach a manufacturing capacity of 2,400 tons to meet the growing demand while maintaining a competitive price, estimated to be 30 to 40 percent lower than the average cost of casein.
Rudy Yoo, Founder and CEO of Pureture, expresses pride in partnering with Namyang, emphasizing the breakthrough nature of their plant-based casein. Pureture, founded in 2022 in New York, focuses on developing animal-free ingredients to contribute to a more sustainable future. The company is finalizing a $12 million seed funding round to build manufacturing facilities and further develop its brand.
This collaboration signifies a strategic move by Namyang Dairy Products to expand its plant-based offering, responding to the increasing demand for sustainable and cruelty-free alternatives in the dairy industry.
